What You'll do

What’s this event all about?

Have you ever seen people dance and thought “ I wish I could to do that”? Maybe you considered trying it out and then, some of the following thoughts came to your mind:

- "But I need a dance partner and I don't know anyone who would join me.."
- "It looks great but I don't think I’m a natural dancer.."
- "I neither have any connections to the dancing scene, nor do I know which style to pick or what dance school to go to.."

In this Beginners Bachata class you will realise that none of these things actually matter - you will get inspired to discover the world of „Social Dancing“. You will learn the basic steps and find out about the range of different styles and music genres, which you can choose from, depending on your individual preferences. After the event you will never say no to a dance in social situations.

Who can take this class?

This class is a beginners class. It is perfect for people that want to bring some balance into their busy professional life with a new hobby such as dancing. My dance partner Charlotte and I, will cover both roles - lead and follow. Everything will be solo work - so you don’t need a partner in this class.

Why should we take this class?

At the end of this class you will most likely be smiling from ear to ear and find yourself, equipped with a basic understanding of Bachata. My goal is to give you the inspiration and confidence to start dancing regularly and thus experience commonly known benefits such as:

- Improvement of physical health and fitness
- More balance and body awareness
- Increased presence and focus
- Reduction of social anxiety & stress
- Improvement in self-confidence, mental health and emotional well-being
- And much more...

How is the event structured?

The structure of the class looks like this:

In the first part (15 minutes), I will give you a quick introduction and explain you how everything works:

- Introduction about the origin, the development and the different styles of Bachata
- Explanation of "social dancing" and what makes it so unique, compared to what you probably know from dance schools so far
- A live performance of the dance

Then, in the second part (45 minutes), I will teach you how to dance yourself:

- Learning the basic steps and movements
- Dancing to different music styles (there is something for almost every taste in Bachata)
- Answering specific questions and feedback

Johannes Bartelt

My name is Johannes and I have been dancing Bachata for the past 3 years. I was always that person, that when going out with friends enjoyed dancing intuitively to good music, never actually learned to dance though. Being busy with other sports I never felt like there is enough time to join a dance school, especially as there weren’t many around where I lived.

When I moved to a new city, to pursue my professional career in Marketing, I by chance saw a Salsa & Bachata course and decided to finally learn a couple dance. From that point on everything changed in a way that I would have
never expected.

without noticing i almost completely substituted going out for drinks with going to dance parties, sparing my self the hangover, while having at least the same amount of fun

different trainings, projects and going to the social dances- even though I was new in the city i constantly got to know interesting, open minded people through attending

I found out that there is a social dance scene, open for anyone within almost every major city, where people meet up for events and schedule spontaneous outdoor meetups in the summer

I soon realized that this was about more than joining a class in some dance studio and "showing up” once a week for an hour, or training hard for competitions and prices ... The beauty with Bachata and Social Dances in general is the community of people sharing the same passion. At some point along my journey as a amateur dancer I felt the urge to share my experiences and get more people like me, to start dancing. With that intention, bachata Media was born.

Here, over the past 1,5 years, I have been working with events and a majority of the leading Bachata artists in Europe, capturing their dances and sharing them with the world, inspiring people to go out, learn and dance.
Along the way i got to know people from all imaginable paths of life. Soccer players, bodybuilders, lawyers, nurses, consultants, teachers and many more.. They all appreciate one thing – knowing they can spontaneously go out by
them self and let go of all the daily baggage, connect with people, turn off their mind, feel the rhythm and just be present in the moment.

I am not a professional dancer and that is not what I teach – I am here to help you make the first step and see what it holds for you - just like i did.
